Tony Bennett was born Anthony Dominick Benedetto on August 3, 1926 in Queens, New York. He grew up in Astoria, Queens and attended the High School of Industrial Arts. He was drafted into the Army during World War II and served in Europe for 18 months. After his service, he returned to New York and began singing professionally.

In 1950, Bennett signed with Columbia Records and released his first single, “Because of You”. The song became a hit and launched his career. He followed up with a string of hits including “Rags to Riches”, “Cold, Cold Heart”, and “Stranger in Paradise”. In 1962, he released his signature song “I Left My Heart in San Francisco”, which earned him two Grammy Awards.

Throughout his career, Bennett continued to release albums and tour extensively. He collaborated with some of the biggest names in music, including Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and Lady Gaga. He also appeared in films, television shows, and Broadway musicals.
