It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the loss of actress Barbara Bosson, one of the most recognizable faces of prime-time television during the ‘80s. She passed away at the age of 83 on February 21st, 2023.


With an impressive career that spanned decades and genres, Barbara Bosson was best known for her role on the iconic police drama Hill Street Blues. The 5-time Emmy nominee played the lovable “Fay Furillo” from 1981 until 1987. The series, which ran for over 150 episodes, earned a grand total of 98 Emmy nominations and 26 wins.

Barbara Bosson was born in San Diego, California in 1940. She attended the University of New Mexico, where she studied Theater Arts, and went on to start her own theater group, the Madhatters. She also had a successful film career, appearing in films such as American Playhouse (1982), F/X (1986), and Duplicity (2009).

At the height of her career, Bosson starred in several theater productions, and appeared in various television series, including The White Shadow and Falcon Crest. She had a recurring role on the hit series Murphy Brown, and appeared in the films Heartbreakers (1984) and Misery (1990). In addition, she had guest appearances on popular television shows such as Law & Order, ER and Providence.

Barbara Bosson was a talented and versatile actress who left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry. She will be remembered fondly and missed by all.
