Simone was born in Bagnoles-de-l'Orne, France on March 23, 1935. She was the eldest of five children, and lived with her family in a small home until she was 10. Her mother died when she was a child, which left her to care for her siblings. In 1945, after Nazi forces occupied her hometown, Simone joined the French Resistance. She was only 10 years old. For the next 6 years, she worked with the French Resistance to sabotage Germany from within. Despite the dangers of the mission, Simone proved herself to be a brave and determined soldier.
In 1951, after the war was over, Simone returned home and attended the University of Poitiers. She studied law and graduated with honors. During her time in university, she was an active member of the student newspaper and was heavily involved in political activism.
After graduating, Simone moved to Paris and began working as a human rights lawyer. She quickly rose to prominence and was a highly sought-after lawyer. She advocated for marginalized peoples and those who had been wronged by society. In 1982, she was appointed to the National Assembly with the Socialist Party. She spent the following years actively pursuing social justice and reform. In 2016, she retired from politics.
