Cynthia Weil was an iconic songwriter whose work will live on for generations to come. Her legacy will be remembered through the timeless songs she wrote with her husband, Barry Mann.

Weil was born in New York City in 1940. She began writing songs as a teenager and pursued a career in music. She met Mann in 1960 while working at a music publishing company and the two began collaborating on songs soon after. They married in August 1961 and continued to write songs together throughout their lives.
Weil and Mann wrote some of the most iconic songs of the 20th century. Their first big hit was “Uptown” for The Crystals in 1962. They went on to write hits for artists such as The Drifters, The Righteous Brothers, The Animals, Aretha Franklin, and many more.
Their most famous song, a work of history overall, was “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’” which was recorded by The Righteous Brothers in 1964. The song has been covered by numerous artists since then and has been featured in many films and television shows.
Weil and Mann were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1987 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005. They also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1985.
Weil and Mann continued to write songs together until her death. Weil’s daughter, Dr. Jenn Mann, said that the songwriter died at her home in Los Angeles. The cause of death was not immediately known.
Weil is survived by her husband, Barry Mann, her daughter, Dr. Jenn Mann, and her son, Michael Mann.
