Two-time Academy Award winning actress and former British Member of Parliament Glenda Jackson passed away peacefully on June 15th, 2023 at the age of 87 after a short illness.

Glenda May Jackson was born in Birkenhead, Cheshire, England on May 9th, 1936. She attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and began her acting career in the 1950s. She gained notoriety in the 1960s with roles in films such as “Women in Love” (1969) and “Sunday Bloody Sunday” (1971).
In 1971, she won her first Academy Award for her performance in the film “Women in Love”. She went on to win a second Oscar in 1973 for her role in the film “A Touch of Class”.
In 1992, Jackson left acting to pursue a career in politics. She was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Labour Party in the constituency of Hampstead and Highgate. She served as an MP for 23 years until 2015 when she retired from politics.
In her later years, Jackson returned to acting and appeared in several films and television shows. She also wrote a memoir, “Glenda Jackson: A Life in Acting and Politics”, which was published in 2019.
Jackson will be remembered for her impressive acting career and her dedication to public service. She leaves behind a legacy of hard work, resilience, and passion for her craft. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and fans around the world.
